Ashley Perone BSN and Raissa Lynn Sanchez BSN are the United Nations and STTI Youth Representatives

The Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) has appointed two Youth Representatives to the United Nations (U.N.). Ashley Perone, BSN, RN, and Raissa Lynn Sanchez, BSN, RN, will represent STTI as part of a new Youth Representatives program from the U.N. which permits Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) to appoint two youth leaders. Ashley and Raissa will work closely with STTI member Holly Shaw, PhD, RN, who frequently represents STTI at the U.N., and the Chairperson of the U.N. and Global Health Advisory Council, Dr. Tara Hulsey.

Ashley and Raissa will attend briefings, special sessions and other meetings designed specifically for youth leaders representing members of their NGO organizations. Raissa will communicate with STTI members with blogs posted on RNL and Twitter. Youth Representatives will serve through the duration of the biennium. 

What's a Youth Representative?

A Youth Representative is a person appointed by an NGO to represent the organization at the U.N. They will get U.N. ground passes and invitations to briefings.  To quality, the Youth Representatives must be between the ages of 18-24 years old and serve a two-year term.

 Nadine Aktan, PhD, RN, FNP-BC, APN was awarded the Iota Alpha Chapter Research Award and Pre-sented, Assessing the Quality of Primary Care Provided to an Indigent Population: A Model of Faculty Practice” at the STTI Iota Alpha Chapter Annual Nursing Research Day April 26, 2012 and the WPU Annual Scholarship and Research Day April 5, 2012.

Claire Donaghy, PhD, RN, CCRN, APN, CNE, has passed the national Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) examination sponsored by the National League for Nursing (NLN). She also will present Integration of QSEN Competencies in a Nursing Leadership Seminar Course at the QSEN National Forum in Tucson, AZ on May 31, 2012.

She also presented an abstract poster” Improving Breastfeeding Continuation Rates” at New Jersey's Maternal Child Health Consortia Conference at Monmouth University June, 2012.

Janet Tracy, PhD, RN, CNE lead and participated in the Cheerful Heart Dental Mission, to Restaura-ción, Dominican Republic and Tilory, Haiti. The team includes nursing graduate Catherine Pichardo WP '11 and senior nursing students Cindy Moncada and D.J. Schnabel. March 19 – 23, 2012.

Elizabeth Van Dyk, DNP, RN, NP-C, APRN-BC, Presented “Teaching Pharmacology Online- Pearls of Wisdom and Lessons Learned for Content Dense Courses” at NJ Edge Faculty Showcase at William Paterson University, March 16, 2012. She also presented “Improving Outcomes of Persons with Type 2 Diabetes through Self-Management Education” at the Eastern Nursing Research Society Confer-ence, March 29, 2012.
