Threats to Constitutional Rights to be Explored in Program at William Paterson University on March 22

Vincent Warren, executive director of the Center for Constitutional Rights, a non-profit legal and educational organization committed to the creative use of law as a positive force for social change, will discuss “Freedom Under Fire” on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at William Paterson University in Wayne as part of the Gandhian Forum for Peace and Justice. Warren will speak at 12:30 p.m. in University Commons Ballroom A. The public is invited to attend and admission is free. The talk is part of a day-long series of social justice events on campus.

In his role at the Center for Constitutional Rights, Warren oversees the organization’s groundbreaking litigation and advocacy work, which is focused on human rights abuses and racial, gender and LGBT injustice, among other issues. Prior to his tenure there, Warren was a national senior staff attorney with the American Civil Liberties Union, where he litigated civil rights cases, focusing on affirmative action, racial profiling, and criminal justice reform. He is the recipient of many awards, including the New York State Bar Association’s Committee on Civil Rights 2016 Haywood Burns Memorial Award and the New York State Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers 2015 Justice Award. Warren is a graduate of Haverford College and Rutgers University School of Law.

William Paterson University’s Gandhian Forum for Peace and Justice seeks to engage high school, college, and university students and teachers and community members in innovative and practical ideas, actions, and programs that promote peace and justice through cooperative engagement, dialogue, and respect for opposing views and opinions. 

The program is co-sponsored by the William Paterson University College of Education, College of Humanities and Social Sciences, Cotsakos College of Business, Department of Africana World Studies, Department of Political Science, Social Justice Project, Asian Studies Program, Cheng Library, and Office of the Provost.
