William Paterson to Celebrate Homecoming and Family Day on October 9; Festivities Include Tailgating, a Carnival, and Football


William Paterson University welcomes alumni, students, their parents and families, faculty, staff and the community to campus for Homecoming and Family Day 2021 with pre-game tailgating, carnival festivities, football, and men’s soccer on Saturday, October 9, 2021.

“We are so excited to welcome our University community back to our beautiful campus for Homecoming 2021,” says Jenna Villani, executive director of alumni relations. “We are looking forward to welcoming alumni back to their alma mater to gather with classmates and friends for a fun-filled day of festivities for the whole family.” University pandemic guidelines and protocols will be followed to ensure the health and safety of the WP community.

“This annual event brings together members of our community as well as parents of new students to tour, share time with their students, and engage in some fun activities in and around sporting events,” says Francisco Diaz, associate vice president for student development.

Homecoming activities begin with pre-game tailgating in Lot 2 from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on campus. Alumni and friends are welcome to bring food, drinks, and grills for a traditional tailgate experience. For additional information, view the tailgating guidelines and the campus map.

A Pioneer Carnival will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the Practice Field. There will also be a student talent showcase and family bingo on site. Everyone is invited for food, games, prizes, giveaways, and activities for all ages.

The Pioneer Football Team squares off against Christopher Newport University for the big Homecoming game at 1 p.m. in Pioneer Football Stadium. Admission is free. During half-time, the University will recognize the 2021 inductees into the William Paterson University Athletic Hall of Fame. This year’s honorees are:

  • Adam Derner ’14, Baseball
  • Mike Guadango ’11, Baseball
  • Michelle Marabondo ’13, Women’s Soccer
  • Ryan Gresik ’14, Football
  • Tobias “Toby” Barboza, Athletic Trainer, 1974-2011 (posthumous award)
  • The 1997-1998 Women’s Basketball Team

The President's Cup will be awarded to the student club or organization that shows the most WP pride by having the largest participation, both students and alumni, at Homecoming. Alumni and students must sign in at the Pioneer Carnival with their group affiliation; the winner will be announced on the field at half-time.

The Men’s Soccer Team plays Rowan University at 5 p.m. in Pioneer Soccer Park. Admission is free.

Parking on Homecoming and Family Day is available in Lot 6 or in the Pioneer Parking Garage.
