Members of the William Paterson University community are invited to participate in the second annual Run for the Last Mile 5K on Sunday, May 7, 2023. The run/walk event, hosted by the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, benefits the College’s Last Mile Scholarship Fund, which provides direct assistance to students experiencing financial hardship close to graduation.
The Last Mile Scholarship Fund, established in 2020, supports students in the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences in their final year or last semester at the University who are experiencing financial hardship. Through the fund, students are awarded a scholarship that bridges this affordability gap and helps them complete the "last mile" to their degree.
“The Run for the Last Mile 5K brings together so much of what we love about William Paterson University,” says Wartyna Davis, dean of the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. “We come together as a community in support of our students. This event is a wonderful opportunity to experience the beauty of our campus and provide critical financial assistance for our deserving students.”
All faculty, staff, students, alumni, friends of the University, and members of the community are welcome to participate in the event, which will be held on campus. The race starts at 9 a.m. in front of the University Commons and ends in Zanfino Plaza.
The course, which will encircle campus, has been officially certified by the USA Track and Field Association. The University’s award-winning radio station, WPSC-FM Brave New Radio, will be on the scene livestreaming the event with music and commentary.
Registration is $35 per person. Organizations may register as a team. The first 100 registrants will receive a t-shirt commemorating the event, can submit their certified race time as a qualifier, and may win medals for the fastest race of their age group or for best represented organization.
