Graduate English as a Second Language (ESL) Certificate

For all graduate programs, all applicants are required to have a NJ Teaching License.

The English as a Second Language (ESL) certification program is designed for individuals who possess a New Jersey standard teaching certificate in a content area or elementary education and who wish to become certified to teach English as a Second Language. It requires 21 credits of study in seven courses, and has the option of continuing in the M.Ed. in Bilingual/ESL program. This program is fully online with synchronous meetings.

August 1: Fall semester
December 1: Spring semester
April 15: Summer semester
*Applications received after the deadline will be reviewed on a space availability basis

*International students are advised to apply by:
April 1st: Fall (September intake)
November 1st: Spring (January intake)

Admission Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Cumulative grade point average (GPA) of no less than 3.00 on 4.00 scale.
  • A Standard New Jersey teaching certificate or a Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing (CEAS).
