Spanish - BA Student Learning Outcomes

  • Students will show an Advanced Low or higher level of proficiency in speaking, understanding, reading, and writing Spanish. 
  • Students will display understanding of grammatical structures and will apply this knowledge in oral and written practice. 
  • Students will demonstrate ability to understand cultural and literary  texts. 
  • Students will demonstrate an understanding of the socio-political and historical contexts of texts and cultural production. 
  • Students will exhibit ability to seek out information, examine assumptions and premises, and write meaningful conclusions based upon objective facts. 

Asian Studies – BA Student Learning Outcomes 

  • Demonstrate the ability to read and converse minimally at a second-year level of proficiency in an Asian language, depending on Track.
  • Show general familiarity with the histories, societies, cultures, literatures, and geography of Asia in general and of a specific geographic and cultural sub-region of Asia, either East Asia (including China, Japan, and Korea) or South Asia (including India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Sri Lanka).
  • Demonstrate awareness and familiarity with different disciplinary approaches to the study of Asia, such as historical, political, cultural, geographic, social, and or linguistic perspectives on the region.
  • Critically analyze Asia's role in relation to the U.S. and the world.

The Bilingual - ESL Grad Program Mission Statement

The mission of the Bilingual/ESL Graduate Program is to prepare educators to teach linguistically diverse learners through courses that balance current theory and practical experience, and to foster the development of knowledge and skills needed to support these learners in their development of proficiency and literacy in both their home language(s) and English.

Program Strengths:

  • Online learning model designed for busy NJ classroom teachers.
  • A direct pathway to additional credentials in ESL and/or Bilingual Education through certification or a master’s degree.  
  • TESOL and CAEP National Accreditation.
  • Individualized advisement and mentoring that facilitates completing the program at students’ preferred pace. 
  • Annual Bilingual/ESL Conference with a wide range of workshops for additional PD hours.
