On Saturday, October 21, Homecoming and Family Day, a group of alumni veterans who graduated in the 1970s, along with their guests, gathered for a luncheon in the John Victor Machuga Student Center on campus.

Spearheaded by Mike Driscoll ’74, the group had an opportunity to reconnect with one another and their alma mater. Those in attendance enjoyed catching up and sharing stories from their time at WP and reminisced about their experiences while viewing memorabilia and photos that they brought to share with one another.

In addition, they had a chance to connect with Silvia Barrera, coordinator of the University’s Office of Veteran and Military Affairs. Barrera shared highlights and updates about the office’s initiatives and the many support services offered to veterans, active-duty service members, and their families that assist with the transition from military service member to college student. Alumni veterans had an opportunity to meet and talk with current WP veteran students as well.

“Listening to their stories and witnessing their camaraderie, they truly share similar experiences to our current veteran students,” says Barrera. “As veterans, they supported one another to be successful academically and remain friends to this day beyond their years at William Paterson.”

Following the luncheon, the group had a chance to visit the Office of Veteran and Military Services and tour the space, which is conveniently located just downstairs in University Commons.
