‘Plus Addressing’ now available for WPUNJ Email Accounts Support for ‘plus addressing’ is now available for all WPUNJ email accounts. Plus Addressing is an email feature that allows you to quickly create unique email addresses (based off your regular WPUNJ email address) which can be a useful tool for more easily managing messages received by your email account. You can use a plus email address for yourself by simply adding a plus (+) sign followed by text after your username in your email address. Messages sent to a plus email address will deliver to your regular WPUNJ email account but using the custom address that you’ve established. This allows for easily distinguishing those messages from emails sent to your regular email address. Example: Regular email address: username@wpunj.edu Plus addressed email address: username+website@wpunj.edu One use of plus addressing would be signing up for a website and providing a unique plus address to that site rather than your regular WPUNJ email address. For example, a plus address that could be used to sign up for a website ‘Widgets’ could be smithj+widgets@wpunj.edu. When the Widgets website then sends email to smithj+widgets@wpunj.edu, the mail will be delivered to the smithj@wpunj.edu account but with a smithj+widgets@wpunj.edu email address in the To field. The primary use cases for plus addressing are: 1) When you would like to use a unique email address for ease of tracking who is sending to that address 2) Using a unique email address to filter incoming email and move certain messages to their own subfolders. If you’d like to try testing plus addressing, simply send an email to your WPUNJ email address, but in the form of username+test@wpunj.edu (or @student.wpunj.edu, for students.) November 22, 2021
