William Paterson University Galleries Presents Annual Art Faculty Exhibition from September 9 through October 18

A selection of recent artworks created by 25 members of the art faculty at William Paterson University in Wayne will be featured in an exhibition at the University Galleries in the Ben Shahn Center for the Visual Arts from September 9 through October 18, 2013.  Gallery hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on September 15 and 29 and October 6 and 13 from noon to 4 p.m.. Admission is free. An opening reception for the exhibition will be held on Sunday, September 22 from 2 to 4 p.m. A faculty panel discussion is scheduled for Tuesday, October 8 from 2 to 3:30 p.m.

The exhibition, in the Court Gallery, provides insight into the diverse artistic practices of the University’s art faculty, which includes painters, sculptors, printmakers, and designers in every media.  Works featured in the exhibit include examples of painting, drawing, sculpture, mixed media, collage, furniture design, photography, textile design and printmaking.

Among the works included in the exhibition will be “Lola Does Not Like Fake Fruit,” a photograph by Robin Schwartz from her series, “Amelia’s World,” that was recently included in The Fence 2013, a summer-long site-specific photographic exhibition in Brooklyn Bridge Park. Schwartz’s photographs, which depict her daughter Amelia with various animals, were featured in The New Yorker Magazine Photo Booth, Slate Magazine, and on the CBS News website.

David Horton will include new drawings from his series, “Dr. Thelonious Tinker, Cosmic Archeologist.” For the last 15 years, Horton has been at work in the Bauhaus artistic tradition, developing a fictional character, Dr. Thelonious Tinker, and making artifacts, appliances, notebook pages, and drawings to complete an archive of Tinker’s work.  Horton has received three artist’s fellowships from the New York Foundation for the Arts, and two separate awards from the National Endowment for the Arts.

Lauren Razzore, a web designer, animator, and graphic designer, will include works from her new photography series, “Robot of the Month Club.” Razzore stages robots in a different setting, encountering real-life scenarios and responding to current events. Themes range from commuting to gay marriage.

Other faculty artists included in the exhibition are Miriam Bisceglia, James Blasi, Kevin Brownie, Giovanna Checchetti, Zhiyuan Cong, Kyle Coniglio, Ming Fay, Eileen Foti, Andrea Geller, Carl Jablonski, Alan Lazarus, Elaine Lorenz, Charles Magistro, Gina Miccinilli, Leslie Nobler, Lily Prince, Michael Rees, Steve Rittler, William Truran, Tom Uhlein, Harry Weil and David Zavracky.

The exhibition is one of three on view concurrently in the University Galleries. “Energy Lattice: Benjamin Phelan,” on view in the East Gallery, presents sculptures created by the Brooklyn-based artists during his spring 2013 artist residency at the University. “Without Adornment: Photographs by George Tice,” on view in the South Gallery, presents gelatin silver prints from the renowned New Jersey photographer’s early Paterson series, as well as platinum/palladium prints, in celebration of Tice’s 75th birthday.
