William Paterson to Host 8th Annual Green A-Fair on April 6 William Paterson University in Wayne will hold its 8th Annual Green A-Fair on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the University Commons on campus. The annual event, hosted by the University’s Climate Action Committee and Earth First Student Environmental Club, offers a venue for organizations and companies to get together to discuss sustainability, environmental issues and resourceful living. Admission is free. A vendor fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room on the main level of the University Commons on campus. More than 30 vendors and environmentally minded organizations including City Green, the National Park Service, the Avian Wildlife Center, and the Laurelwood Arboretum will be in attendance. The William Paterson University Galleries will be in attendance highlighting their eco-themed exhibition, Living Together: Nurturing Nature in the Built Environment, which opens March 21 and includes the work of artist Tattfoo Tan. A teach-in on a variety of environmental issues will be held starting at 9:30 a.m. in University Commons Room 216. The theater troupe, Superhero Clubhouse, will conduct a creative workshop in which participants will travel through a three-part process building short performances based on personal storytelling surrounding issues of climate change. Jason Angell, founder of the Ecological Citizens Project at Longhaul Farm in Garrison, NY, will explore key drivers of today’s sustainability challenges and the role individuals must play in implementing solutions. He will detail the Half Calf Campaign, developed in partnership with William Paterson University students Alexa Fiumarelli of Wayne and Zack Biskup of Ringwood, which aims to ask colleges and universities to cut beef consumption by 50 percent and to replace it with other meats and vegetables to save money, cut carbon emissions, and improve health. Matt Hand, owner of Hand Picked Farm Organic CSA in Flanders, NJ, and a 2006 graduate of William Paterson, will discuss his experiences as a local farmer and the pros and cons of community supported agriculture. Captain Bill Sheehan and Caitlin Doran of Hackensack Riverkeeper will talk about the organization’s history, recent successes, current issues, and public access rules as well as the River Cleanup program and the issue of plastics in local waterways.
