William Paterson University Presents Explorations 2016: Research, Scholarship, and Creative Expression Across All Academic Disciplines with Series of Events in April Series begins with 10th Annual Undergraduate Research Symposium in Biology, Chemistry and Environmental Science on Saturday, April 9 Visit the new website Explorations 2016: Research, Scholarship and Creative Expression is a series of events showcasing research across all five colleges at William Paterson University in Wayne and will be held from April 9 through April 22, 2016. Events include lectures, presentations of faculty and student research and awards, Honors Week student presentations, faculty authors and poster sessions. “We are very proud of the wide range of research, scholarly and creative work conducted on an ongoing basis by our faculty and students in all of our academic disciplines,” says Warren Sandmann, provost and senior vice president for academic affairs. “Exploration 2016 provides an opportunity for us to celebrate the many accomplishments with several important events over the course of two weeks.” The series begins with the 10th Annual Undergraduate Research Symposium in Biology, Chemistry and Environmental Science on Saturday, April 9 in University Commons Ballrooms. More than 150 undergraduate science students and faculty from colleges throughout New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania will present their research during this special celebration of the annual symposium. The series culminates on Friday, April 22 with an overall conference on advancing research, scholarship and creative expression at William Paterson University. The program will focus on topics such as “promoting your research for national recognition” and “strategies for obtaining federal support for research,” and includes remarks from Provost Warren Sandmann and President Kathleen Waldron. The luncheon program, from noon to 1:15 p.m., features a keynote address by Jeffrey M. Osborn, dean of the School of Science and professor of biology, The College of New Jersey, and a past president of the Council on Undergraduate Research, on “Building and Sustaining an Institutional Culture of Undergraduate Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity: Strategies for Faculty and Institutions.” Discussion groups will follow and the program will end at 2:30 p.m. Other highlights during the month include the Garden State Undergraduate Mathematics Conference on Saturday, April 16, hosted by the University’s Department of Mathematics. Faculty as well as professional mathematicians from the tri-state region will attend. The event will also include a student mathematics competition with more than 100 undergraduate students from New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. On Tuesday, April 19, the College of Education faculty will present technology across the curriculum from 11 a.m. to 12:15 in Ballroom A. Also on this day, a presentation of research papers by faculty in the Cotsakos College of Business will be held from 2 to 3:15 p.m. in Ballroom B. On Wednesday, April 20, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences will present “Dialogues of Identity,” with faculty panelists from history, sociology and English. On Thursday, April 21, the College of Science and Health Center for Research will highlight faculty and student summer research award recipients from chemistry, biology, and nursing from 11 to 12:15 in Ballroom A. During the same time frame, the College of Education will hold discussion sessions in University Commons 171 A and B on research topics in Special Education and Counseling, and Educational Leadership and Professional Studies. From 2 to 3:15 p.m., the College of Science and Health will hold part two of its faculty and student summer research awards recipients in Ballroom A.
