University Celebrates Opening of Renovated Pioneer Soccer Park In addition to benefiting the WP men's and women's soccer programs, the new Pioneer Soccer Park will also serve the entire student body Kathleen Waldron, University president, (center) cuts ribbon with Warren Sandmann, provost and senior vice president for academic affairs, Miki Cammarata, vice president for student development, and students William Paterson University celebrated the official opening of its renovated Pioneer Soccer Park with a ceremonial ribbon cutting on Thursday, Sept. 1, 2016. President Kathleen Waldron was joined at the event by the Pioneer men's and women's soccer teams, as well as University administrators and members of the campus community. This summer, William Paterson undertook a major renovation of the facility, replacing the grass surface with artificial turf, building new seating for approximately 300 spectators, installing a press box and replacing all fencing and netting at the facility. The major overhaul also included the paving and lighting of a path that runs from Pioneer Soccer Park to Pioneer Softball Field. In addition to benefiting the WP men's and women's soccer programs, the new Pioneer Soccer Park will also serve the entire student body as a location to be used for academic purposes, intramural programs and club sports practices. Immediately following the ribbon cutting, the Pioneer men's soccer team hosted its season opener against St. Joseph's-Long Island. The women's soccer program played its first event on the pitch on Friday, September 2, against Medgar Evers.
