Public Health Professor Jean Levitan Receives Distinguished Service Award from Society for Scientific Study of Sexuality Levitan is a specialist in human sexuality, women’s health, reproductive rights, and healthy aging Professor Jean Levitan Jean Levitan, a professor of public health, received the 2015 Distinguished Service Award from the Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality in recognition of her outstanding service to the organization. Levitan has been an active member of the organization for decades. Most recently, she served on the institution’s board of directors from 2008 to 2014, where she held the position of treasurer, and as president in 2013. A member of the University faculty since 1978, Levitan is a specialist in human sexuality, women’s health, reproductive rights, and healthy aging. She has taught undergraduate courses focused on sexuality and health for more than 40 years, co-authored the textbook Healthy Sexuality, and has conducted training sessions for both educators and healthcare providers. She is a member of the board of directors of the Foundation for the Scientific Study of Sexuality and of the board of the Sexuality and Aging Consortium at Widener University. On campus, Levitan has served in numerous leadership positions, including department chair, chair of the Faculty Senate, and co-director of the effort to reform general education that resulted in the University Core Curriculum. She holds a doctorate from New York University.
