For High School Administrators

William Paterson University Currently Has A Variety of Models for High School Dual Enrollment:

The High School Teacher Model:

  • High School teachers and courses are proposed by the high school and evaluated by the WP academic department chair.  High School teachers are the primary instructors and have adjunct professor status.  High School courses are given a WP course equivalent.  A WP collaborating professor works with the high school teacher to establish requisite learning outcomes and associated course expectations.
  • Cost is $100 per credit for New Jersey residents.
  • At the end of each term, grades are recorded on a William Paterson University transcript that students can use as evidence of college credit completion.

    The Onsite Professor Model:

    • A WP professor serves at the primary instructor and provides in-person, classroom instruction to high school students onsite at the high school.
    • Cost is $199 per credit for New Jersey residents.
    • At the end of each term, grades are recorded on a William Paterson University transcript that students can use as evidence of college credit completion.

    The Students On Campus Model

    • High school students come to William Paterson University’s campus and take WP courses, taught by WP faculty in person on the main campus. High school seniors may take up to 30 college-level credits that count both toward a William Paterson University bachelor’s degree and a high school diploma.
    • Cost is $199 per credit for New Jersey residents.
    • At the end of each term, grades are recorded on a William Paterson University transcript that students can use as evidence of college credit completion.

    The Business Model

    • High school students take AACSB accredited business courses, taught by William Paterson faculty, virtually and asynchronously and supplemented with further in-person instruction from high school teachers.
    • William Paterson faculty will collaborate with the high school teachers on various class management tasks.
    • Cost is $199 per credit for New Jersey residents.

    Next Steps:

    • School districts will choose from one of the models listed above.
    • School Districts may propose their own courses and instructors by May 1st for the upcoming school year to be evaluated by the WP academic department chair or they may select course(s) from our list of suggested courses.  Proposed course outlines and instructor resumes/CVs should be emailed to dualenrollment@wpunj.edu no later than May 1st for the upcoming academic year.
    • WP Academic department chairs will review any proposed high school courses and teacher resumes/CVs.  If the course and teacher is approved, the high school course will be given a WP course equivalent and the high school teacher will be set up as a WP adjunct.
    • An official contract will be submitted to the school district for signature, outlining the course offerings, costs, model type, and district expectations.
    • The school district will identify eligible students for the course(s) and submit rosters to WP.  Students may begin applying after September 1st for Fall 2024 classes.

      Admissions Criteria:

      • For cohort programs through the high school, the school district is responsible for identifying eligible students for each course being offered for college credit and ensuring these students are able to manage college-level course work. The GPA requirements are 3.25 and above for high school juniors and 3.0 and above for high school seniors.  High achieving high school sophomores may be eligible, at the school district's discretion.
      • All students taking dual enrollment courses individually, and not part of a cohort program, require a teacher, principal, or school counselor letter of recommendation.  GPA requirements are 3.25 and above for juniors and 3.0 for seniors.  Placement testing may be required for certain courses.  Individual dual enrollment students should contact The Office of Undergraduate Admissions at admissions@wpunj.edu or 973-720-2125.
