William Paterson University celebrated the Grand Opening of the Center for Chinese Art at William Paterson University in Ben Shahn Art Center B10 at 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 8, 2010.
Dr. Arnold Speert, President of William Paterson University; Dr. Edward Weil, Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost; Stephen Bolyai, Vice President of Administration and Finance; Sandra S. Deller, Vice President of Institutional Advancement; other principal leaders of the University; Mr. Yansheng Wang, Cultural Counsellor of the Chinese Consulate General in New York; Mr. Lyusheng Chen, Deputy Director of the China National Museum of China; Ms. Margaret Lam and Mr. David Yen, CCART Honorary Directors and advisors; Mr. Huangsheng Wang, Director of the Art Museum of China Central Academy of Fine Arts; and other guests from China attended ceremony.
President Arnold Speert spoke first and acknowledged the generous donation of Margaret Lam and David Yen to William Paterson University, establishing the Center for Chinese Art. He spoke highly of Professor Cong's efforts in promoting cultural exchanges between China and the United States. Mr. Yansheng Wang, Cultural Counselor of the Chinese Consulate General in New York, announced a letter of congratulation from Consul General Keyu Peng and delivered a congratulatory speech. Mr. Lyusheng Chen, Ms. Margaret Lam, Mr. David Yen, and Professor Zhiyuan Cong also delivered speeches. President Speert then named Margaret Lam and David Yen Honorary Directors of the Center for Chinese Art at William Paterson University and cut the ribbon and peeled the nameplate for the Center with other guests.
10:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at Printmaking Studio in Power Art Center, WPUNJ
A demonstration uses the Blue Film Spit-Bite Etching method to create Chinese painting images. It provides an experience for combining Chinese artistic creation and printmaking techniques, modern and traditional printmaking mediums, and the Eastern and Western art forms. Visiting artists from China demonstrated Chinese painting images on printmaking plates, and WPUNJ students will make the images into etching prints.

Chuxiong Fang, Professor and Associate Dean of School of Chinese Painting at Guangdong Art Institute, a renowned artist of flower-and-bird painting. Shuran Lin, Director of Lingnan Painting Art Museum at Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, Guangzhou, an artist of Chinese fine-brushworked color painting. Huansheng Wang, Professor and Director of the Art Museum of the China Central Academy of Fine Arts, an artist of traditional Chinese ink painting.
3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. at Ben Shahn Art Gallery, WPUNJ
A panel of featured artists discussed Contemporary Art in China followed by a question-and-answer session. Speakers included Lyusheng Chen, Chuxiong Fang, Shuran Lin, Huangsheng Wang.
