This was a comparative dialogue of American and Chinese visual arts during November 6 to 8, 2014. The exhibition and the symposium included panel discussions, academic research exchanges, demonstrations, slide presentations, and other special activities. The presenters were primarily U.S.-based art professors of Chinese origin, who had considerable teaching and creative art experiences in both China and the United States. Their art works and symposium topics reflect their cross- culture life experiences, creative vision, and a confluence of cultural and artistic solutions.
The Center for Chinese Art at William Paterson University is honored to be part of this collaborative exhibition with the Asian Cultural Center, the Chinese-American Art Faculty Association and the China International Culture Association: “Collision and Confluence: An Exhibition of Chinese-American Faculty.”
For centuries, societies have looked to artists and scholars to enlighten and entertain, to challenge and question, to teach and reveal. Artists who follow the path to the teaching profession have the unique opportunity to educate their students in a most personal way, through artworks created from their own hands. Our faculty inspire students to fully actualize their creative minds, to produce works that will engage and fascinate future generations of art enthusiasts.
The beauty of art needs few words and transcends cultural and political boundaries. We celebrate the artists represented in this exhibition and the unique perspectives they bring to our world. We hope this exhibition will be just one of many more collaborations with the Asian Cultural Center, the Chinese-American Art Faculty Association and the China International Culture Association."
