Iman Boukadoum to Lecture on Interfaith Relations at William Paterson University on October 20

Lecture is first event for University’s new Middle East Studies minor

Iman Boukadoum, director of community partnerships at the Interfaith Center of New York, will discuss “Interfaith Relations in a Time of Tension” on Thursday, October 20, 2016 at William Paterson University in Wayne.  The event begins at 9:30 a.m. in the Atrium Auditorium on campus.  The lecture is free and open to the public.

The lecture serves as the inaugural event presented by the University’s new minor in Middle East Studies, launched this fall.  The interdisciplinary program is designed to prepare students to understand and engage with a region of cultural, economic, and political importance through courses drawn from a range of disciplines including art, business, film, geography, history, languages and cultures, philosophy, political science, sociology, and women’s and gender studies.

Boukadoum is an Algerian-American, Muslim social justice attorney who works for the Interfaith Center of New York, an organization that supports grassroots, interfaith campaigns on social justice issues, while combating bigotry and misunderstanding. She began her career at the Office for Civil Rights and Civil Liberties at the Department of Homeland Security in Washington, D.C., and later served as an associate counsel at the Center for Justice of the American Civil Liberties Union, addressing the issue of the militarization of policing, resulting in the report War Comes Home published right before the 2014 Ferguson, Missouri, protests. Prior to joining the Interfaith Center, she handled asylum and immigration cases at the law firm Youman, Madeo and Fasano. A graduate of the University of Virginia, she holds a juris doctor degree from the College of William and Mary Marshall Wythe Law School.
