Exemptions from English Language Proficiency Requirement

The English Language Proficiency requirement may be waived if you meet one of the criteria noted below:

Please note that students who change high school or secondary school mid-stream (for example, from a local, non-English speaking curriculum to an IB program) are expected to be enrolled in non-ESL English courses consistent with their peers.

Upon acceptance, all new students are required to take the University placement test for reading, writing and mathematics. The results of these tests will determine if English or mathematics non-credit remedial courses are necessary.

Unless required by your academic major, personal statements are not required, but are accepted. If you wish to submit a resume/CV or list of extracurricular activities you have participated in for review, you may do so after submitting your online application. Documents may be submitted by email: international@wpunj.edu.

Official SAT or ACT test scores are optional. Students submitting SAT scores should enter our SAT school code (2518). Students submitting ACT scores should enter our ACT school code (2584).

For most academic majors a recommendation letter is not required but are accepted. You should submit a recommendation letter from a guidance counselor or a teacher.

Please note that certain academic majors may require more than one recommendation letter. One of your recommendation letters should speak to your candidacy for your intended academic field of study. Recommendation letters may be submitted by email: international@wpunj.edu.

You will receive emails after you submit your application; one will be your Official Application Acknowledgement. This message will contain your WP Student ID (SID) number, along with instructions on how to check your application status and submit your documentation.
