Testing for English as a Foreign Language

William Paterson does not offer an English as a Second Language program for those individuals who score below the minimum requirement, which is either:

  • TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) minimum scores are: 79-80 for the Internet-based test, 213 for the computer-based test, and 550 for the paper-based test.
  • IELTS (International English Language Testing System) minimum score is: 6.0.
  • Duolingo English Test minimum score of 105
  • SAT EBRW section minimum score of 500
  • Michigan English Test (MET) minimum score of 79
  • Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic minimum score of 53 (we cannot accept PTE General
  • GTEC minimum score of 1350
  • STEP Eiken minimum score of 2500

TOEFL Exemption

The following countries use English as the official language, or language of instruction, and are exempt from TOEFL requirements:
