William Paterson University Honors Student Veterans

William Paterson University will honor its veterans with several activities surrounding Veteran’s Day 2016 on November 11. The national poster theme commemorating veterans is “Courage—Honoring All Who Served.”

WP Presents! will feature two performances of “BASETRACK Live: The Story of a Marine’s Deployment, and His Journey Back Home” on Tuesday, November 1 at 7 p.m. The performance combines original music, authentic video and talented actors in a multimedia presentation to connect audiences to a human face in America’s longest war. The production is endorsed by the Pentagon and was recognized in 2014 by The New York Times as one of the top ten theatrical pieces. General admission tickets are $10 and University students are admitted free with I.D. Tickets are available at wppresents.org or the Shea Center Box Office.

The annual flag planting will take place beside the University’s Zanfino Plaza on November 3 at 12:30 p.m. Thousands of American flags will be planted to represent service members who have been killed in action. William Paterson student veterans, fraternity members and the student patrol division of the campus police will participate in the event, which is free and open to the public.

William Paterson University will observe Veteran’s Day with a special Remembrance Day ceremony on November 10 at 12:30 p.m. in the University Commons Ballroom C.

The observance will feature “A Soldier’s Memoir,” a music video of a song by Joe Bachman describing Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. William Paterson student and Marine veteran of Afghanistan Stephen Harris will speak about suicide awareness and the event will include a reading of the names of New Jersey soldiers who were killed in action in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.
