William Paterson University Presents Three-Part Living Writers Series

Events on November 10, 15, and 30 to feature English professors John Parras and Grover Furr, and arts journalist Frank J. Avella

William Paterson University’s College of Humanities & Social Sciences will host the Living Writers Series, a project of the Literary Artist Fellowship Showcase. The series features John Parras, PhD, William Paterson University English professor, on November 10 at 5 p.m.; Grover Furr, PhD, Montclair State University English professor, on November 15 at 12:30 p.m.; and Frank J. Avella, Edge Media Network and newyorkcool.com film and theater journalist, on November 30 at 3:30 p.m.

Parras will present an evening of his prose that includes selections from his fiction works. Parras was recently awarded a 2016 Individual Artist Fellowship in prose from the New Jersey State Council of Arts.

Furr will discuss research methodolgy, including how he validates proofs in his own work and evaluates evidence produced by others. Furr’s extensive primary source research about the Soviet Union between years 1920 and 1960 challenges many of the claims made by popular historians of today.

Avella will present his play “#bullied,” which will be read by professional actors. He also received the 2015 Fellowship Award from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts for his play, “CONSENT.”

The Living Writers Series strives to identify and invite writers working in the arts, academics, business, advertising and other disciplines to share their writing processes and experiences with the student body and local community. This series is a co-sponsored program of the New Jersey State Council on the Arts and Writers Theater of New Jersey.

All lectures will take place in William Paterson University’s Cheng Library Auditorium. Admission is free and open to the public.
