Liu Haisu (1896 – 1994) was a prominent twentieth-century Chinese artist and noted art educator. In 1912 he founded the first school of fine arts in modern China, the Shanghai School of Fine Arts. He initiated coeducation and pioneered human body modeling in China and advocated painting directly from life. He was a brilliant artist who used his unique blend of European and Chinese techniques to revolutionize art education in China.

Mr. Chen, Ms. Liu, and Ms. Zhang were invited to participate the commemorative activities, symposium and presentation at the UN, Sino Vision and China Art Institute in New York City this week. We are fortunate to have these notable proponents of Chinese art visit William Paterson University to present “A Drop in the Ocean: A Celebration of Chinese Art Master LIU Haisu's 120th Anniversary” and to answer questions from our community and the media.
