William Paterson University Observes Black History Month in February 2017

Lectures, community service, music and dance support the theme “From Tragedy to Triumph” for William Paterson University’s annual observance of Black History Month during February 2017. Upcoming events include:

Friday, 2/17

  • Meal Packaging Community Service with CareMore, an integrated health plan and care delivery system for Medicare and Medicaid patients, 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Saturday, 2/18

  • Harlem Cultural Experience – 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Join in for a day in New York City including a tour of the Apollo Theater, dining, and shopping. Purchase tickets at Campus Activities Service and Leadership, University Commons 302. $14 William Paterson students, $33 for guests.

Tuesday, 2/21

  • Black Excellence: Urban Professional Panel - 6:30 to 8 p.m., University Commons171A/B.
  • No Limits: Your Personal Greatness - 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., University Commons 202. Speaker: Ayana Iman, inspirational speaker and self-help blogger.

Wednesday, 2/22

  • Women of the Civil Rights Movement, 5 to 7 p.m., Cheng Library Auditorium.

Thursday, 2/23

  • Cafe´ Liberations - 7 to 11 p.m., Student Center Cafe´. Join in a night of poetry and spoken word.

Friday, 2/24

  • Habitat for Humanity Community Service, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Anita Hill, a renowned social justice activist, and the woman who made sexual harassment in the workplace a national issue by testifying against Supreme Court Justice nominee Clarence Thomas, will speak as part of the University’s Distinguished Lecturer Series, 7:30 p.m., Shea Center. Saturday, 2/25

  • Gospel Explosion - 7 to 10 p.m. Celebrate gospel heritage through dance, musical selections and poetry.

Monday, 2/27

  • Closing Ceremony/Gala - 7 to10 p.m., University Commons Ballrooms A, B and C. Semi-formal dress.
