Trumpeter Jeremy Pelt will perform as soloist with the William Paterson University Jazz Orchestra in the finale of spring 2017 Jazz Room series on Sunday, May 7, 2017, at 4 p.m. in the Shea Center for Performing Arts on the William Paterson university campus in Wayne.

One of the most notable young trumpeters in jazz, Pelt recently joined the William Paterson jazz faculty. He has performed with such giants as Frank Foster, Jimmy Heath, Cedar Walton, John Hicks, Bobby Short, and the Vanguard Orchestra. Pelt tours with his own ensembles and is a member of the Lewis Nash Septet, and also performs with the Cannonball Adderley Legacy Band with Louis Hayes, and saxophonist Vincent Herring. Jive Culture, his latest CD, features legend Ron Carter. This exciting big band concert features Pelt on the premiere of three new arrangements of his compositions by William Paterson’s master’s level arrangers.

Launched in 1978, the Jazz Room is one of the largest and most prestigious college-sponsored jazz events in the country. Performers include renowned professionals who encompass the complete spectrum of jazz, from practitioners of traditional jazz to avant-garde to bebop to swing to Afro-Latin jazz, as well as William Paterson’s own student ensembles. The series has won numerous grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and more than 30 years of continuous support from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts for its innovative programming.
