Music Professor Payton MacDonald to Give TEDx Bozeman Talk on April 8 on Sonic Divide

--Talk will be live-streamed at 4:30 p.m.

Music professor Payton MacDonald will speak about his new documentary film, Sonic Divide, at TEDx Bozeman in Bozeman, Montana on Saturday, April 8, 2017.  His talk will begin at 4:30 p.m., EST, and will be live-streamed at https://livestream.com/Tedx/events/7213180??.

Sonic Divide chronicles MacDonald’s June 2016 mountain bike trip along the 2,500-mile U.S. Great Divide Mountain Biking Route from Mexico to Canada. MacDonald, a percussionist and singer, combined his passions for creative music and ultra-distance mountain biking, commissioning 30 composers to write original works that he could perform along the route with a pair of lightweight mallets, his voice, and surrounding found objects.

In his TEDx Bozeman talk, MacDonald will perform excerpts of pieces by composers Michael Gordon and Eric Funk, show an excerpt of the film, and discuss his journey and the film.

Sonic Divide features interviews with the composers, other riders, trail angels, a geographer, and Michael McCoy, who created the U.S. Great Divide Mountain Biking Route. The film documents MacDonald’s grueling journey, during which he climbed more than 200,000 vertical feet, traversing mountaintops, deserts, forests, and off-road terrains. He carried all his own supplies including food, tools, camping gear, and camera equipment, pedaling as much as 130 miles per day.
