Talia Spille of Mount Tabor, NJ, an accounting major at William Paterson University, is one of 167 students nationwide who were chosen to receive a $10,000 merit-based scholarship from the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB). The PCAOB provided an award to one student at each of 167 colleges and universities.
“We are so grateful to Mary Kay Scucci, an alumna and member of the Advisory and Advancement Board of the Cotsakos College of Business, for bringing this opportunity to our attention,” says Siamack Shojai, dean of the University’s’s Cotsakos College of Business. “Sia Nassiripour, chair of the Department of Accounting and Law, also deserves our gratitude for nominating Talia for this scholarship.”
Spille will graduate in May 2019 from William Paterson and plans to pursue a career in public accounting in the audit field. She has also won the President’s Award for Educational Excellence in 2014 and is a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society.
"This award continues to provide financial assistance to future accountants and we hope it inspires them to pursue a career in auditing and advance investor protection," said PCAOB Chairman James R. Doty.
The Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 requires that monetary penalties imposed by the PCAOB in its disciplinary proceedings be used to fund a merit scholarship program for students in accredited accounting degree programs. The PCAOB scholarship program was created to identify students eligible for the scholarships and award the funds through the students' educational institutions.
