Chad Stewart, a senior accounting and finance major, was thrilled to be one of 10 students in the Cotsakos College of Business to receive $200 from the faculty-supported “Suited for Success” program. He used the money to purchase a suit from Jos. A. Bank and has worn it to every job fair since his junior year.

“I am grateful for this program because it really did make a difference for me. Seeing that faculty members funded such a helpful program adds to an already long list of reasons why I am proud to attend William Paterson,” says Stewart.

Michaela Bublikova, an international student, is another grateful recipient of the award. “I realized the importance of looking professional at my summer internship when I was working for an event planning company that hosted conferences for Fortune 500 companies and their highest-level executives,” she says. “Since I am going to graduate this May, I will continue improving my professional look.”

Sue Godar, professor, marketing and management, came up with the idea of helping students purchase business suits when she served as interim dean. “I read a story about a lending library for business attire in one of the business school journals,” she says, and noticed that many top schools offer similar assistance. She contributed to the first round of awards given last summer. This year, Professor James Teng matched Godar’s donation, enabling additional awards to be offered.

“Suited for Success” is for students who are majoring in a program in the Cotsakos College of Business, are in good academic standing, and have completed at least 75 credit hours. To apply, students must complete an application and include a short essay of 200 words or less describing how a suit will help them make a better presentation in obtaining a job or internship.

“We always tell people to dress for the job you want, not the job you have,” says Godar. “Wearing the right outfit helps build that confidence.”

The deadline for this year’s "Suited for Success" has been extended to Wednesday, February 28. To apply, fill out the application at http://bit.ly/SuitedForSuccess. Completed applications can be submitted by email to IAScholarships@wpunj.edu or by mail, c/o the Office of Institutional Advancement, to 300 Pompton Road, Wayne, NJ 07470.
