University Hosts Cultural Unity Day That Brings Together Latinx, LGBTQ, African/Black, Women and Asian Celebrations on Friday, April 13


William Paterson University will host the themed celebration “Unity Day: Uniting our Collective Voice” that brings together the Latinx, LGBTQ, African/Black, Women and Asian Celebrations focusing on cultural unity on Friday, April 13 from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Zanfino Plaza.

“Unity Day is a culminating event for the theme celebrations held throughout the year, as well as an opportunity for student groups to showcase and celebrate their culture,” says Miki Cammarata, vice president for student development.

Events begin at 10:30 a.m. with the Student Government Association’s “Walk for a Colorful Mind,” a color run/walk to raise awareness about mental health. T-shirts will be provided. From noon to 2 p.m., the Latin band “Los Ciegos Del Barrio” (Blind Men of the Neighborhood), will perform, followed by DJ Nix playing cultural music.

A variety of student performances will be held from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. and there will cultural food samples and table displays featuring activities, novelties, and giveaways by offices such as Campus Activities, Services and Leadership; the Women’s Center; and Counseling Health and Wellness. In the event of rain, events will be held in the Machuga Student Center Multipurpose Room. The event is sponsored by the Theme Celebration Steering Committee, Student Government Association and Campus Activities, Service and Leadership with support from Hospitality Services.
