Lydia Albuquerque, a 2017 graduate of the doctor of nursing practice (DNP) program at William Paterson University, received the Diva Award for Exceptional Nurses given by New Jersey State Nurses Association 's Institute for Nursing. Dons and Divas are recognized for their contributions to nursing research, nursing education or administration and outstanding professional career accomplishments.
Albuquerque has 34 years of experience in nursing education and critical care and has lectured nationally and internationally.
She has held various executive positions in the National Association of Indian Nurses of America. She is the founding president of the NAINA’s NJ Chapter II, chair of NAINA’s Advanced Practice Nurses Committee, and recently convened a national conference for more than 200 participants in Houston, Texas, “Advancing Health through Excellence in Clinical Practice.” She also led a team of seven volunteers, and partnered with United Light of Hope, to provide a medical mission to the city of Canaan, Haiti, to help build a medical clinic for the community.
Albuquerque serves on the education committee of the American Association of Heart Failure Nurses (AAHFN). Her recent project, “Predictors of 30 day hospital readmission among patient with heart failure,” which focused on improving health care for the underprivileged patient population, received the Nightingale research award; her paper will be presented as a poster at the 14th annual AAHFN conference in Chicago.
Albuquerque will join William Paterson University as an assistant professor of nursing in September 2018.
