Manhattan Bagel of Wayne Raises Dough to Support WP Scholarships

When Akram Kwaik, owner of Manhattan Bagel in Wayne, chose to support William Paterson student scholarships, he didn’t opt for a small percentage of sales; instead, he gave it his full support by donating the entire day’s net proceeds on March 3, 2018. The donation will result in three $1,000 scholarships for students.

“It’s a way to give back to our community and our customers,” says Kwaik, whose franchise is located across from the University at 163 Hamburg Turnpike. “It was a lot of fun, and the people who work here all enjoyed it,” he adds.

“We are immensely grateful to Akram Kwaik of Manhattan Bagel for his generous donation,” says Kathleen Waldron, president of William Paterson University. “We are happy to have support from Manhattan Bagel in Wayne and appreciate the way it will directly benefit our students.”

According to Manhattan Bagel representative Angela Greene-Hicks, Kwaik is their largest franchise owner, with nine locations in New Jersey. “He is very generous and likes to be a part of the community in which he serves,” she says. “His philosophy is that without the people, his doors wouldn’t be open.”

“Every time a customer comes in from William Paterson, they talk about it,” says Kwaik. “It feels good.”
