William Paterson University men's rugby team won the Tri-State 7s Rugby Conference on Sunday, April 29, at Vassar College. They defeated the University of Wisconsin—Milwaukee in the final [31-14].
Undefeated in the event, William Paterson swept aside their group opponents Molloy B [56-0], SUNY-New Paltz [36-5], Marist B [57-0] and New Paltz B [35-0].
The Pioneers advance to the U.S.A. Rugby National 7s Championship and will represent the conference for the second successive year in Glendale, Colo. on May 19, 2018.
Morné Pretorius came on board as coach two years ago. He restructured the program and has led the team to national status. Assistant coaches are Kisset Chirengende and Heinrich Kruse.
