Clinical Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling M.Ed. Programs Re-Accredited by CACREP

The Board of Directors of the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Education Programs (CACREP) met July 12-14, 2018, for the purpose of making accreditation decisions. The two counseling specialty areas housed in the College of Education at William Paterson University were reviewed under the 2016 CACREP Standards and the decision was made to continue the accreditation of both the Clinical Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling M.Ed. Degree Programs for a two-year period through October 31, 2020. This status is granted to programs that substantially meet the requirements for accredited status. Within the two-year period, the programs will submit an Interim Report, the acceptance of which will lead to the accreditation of the remainder of the eight-year accreditation cycle. Dr. Sylvia Fernandez, President and CEO of CACREP wrote on July 24, 2018, in a letter to Dr. Richard Helldobler, President of William Paterson University, that “the faculty deserve to be congratulated for the time, energy, and commitment that they have given throughout this accreditation process.” Dr. Amy Ginsberg, Dean of the College of Education, joins in congratulating the counseling faculty on this important accomplishment and commends them on their continuous hard work and commitment to excellence in the preparation of professional counselors.
