William Paterson University to Hold Investiture Ceremony for New President Richard J. Helldobler on Friday, Oct. 5


The formal investiture of Richard J. Helldobler as the eighth president of William Paterson University in Wayne, New Jersey will be held on Friday, October 5, 2018 at 11 a.m. on campus in the Shea Center. Watch the Ceremony Live, 10 a.m.

A colorful, traditional academic procession from the University Commons to Shea Center will begin at 10:30 a.m. The procession will include student representatives, alumni, delegates from colleges and universities in New Jersey and beyond, the faculty, staff and administration, invited speakers, members of the Board of Trustees, President Emeritus Arnold Speert, and President Helldobler.

Michael A. Seeve, chairperson of the University’s Board of Trustees, will preside over the investiture ceremony and will confer the presidency on President Helldobler, who assumed office on July 1. As part of the ceremony, President Helldobler will be presented with the president’s academic regalia in the University’s colors of orange and black, as well as the President’s Medal and the University mace. Following the presentation ceremony, President Helldobler will deliver his inaugural address.

The ceremony will include remarks by Jacqueline Taylor, retired provost of The College of New Jersey; Michelle Behr, chancellor of the University of Minnesota, Morris; and Charles R. Middleton, president emeritus of Roosevelt University. It will also include greetings from Steven Rose, president of Passaic County Community College; Arlene Scala, William Paterson University professor of women’s and gender studies and chair of the Faculty Senate; Domenico DiMaio ‘97, president of the William Paterson University Alumni Association; and Kody Guedes ‘19, president of the Student Government Association.

Musical selections during the ceremony will include a fanfare written by Donato Fornuto, professor emeritus of music. Assistant professor of music Christopher Dylan Herbert, baritone, will sing the national anthem, and the William Paterson University Chamber Singers, under the direction of assistant professor of music Lauren Fowler Calisto, will sing the University’s Alma Mater.
