Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School students Macey Wonacott and Taylor Morales

A panel on gun safety featuring two students who lived through the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School will take place at William Paterson University as a lead-in to its production of “26 Pebbles” – the play by Eric Ulloa based on testimony of Newtown, Connecticut community members. The panel will take place on Thursday, November 1 from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. at the Shea Center for Performing Arts, located on the University’s campus in Wayne, New Jersey. Both the University community and general public are invited. Admission is free.

Serving on the panel, titled “After Parkland and Sandy Hook: Where Do We Go From Here,” are Marjory Stoneman students Taylor Morales and Macey Wonacott; Tom Campbell, Director of the Newtown Foundation and The Newtown Action Alliance; Brett Sabo, the New Jersey State Chapter Leader of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America; and Lieutenant George Guzman, of the police department in neighboring Haledon, New Jersey. The panel will be moderated by WP College of the Arts and Communication professor Dr. Joann Lee, a seasoned journalist who formerly worked as a reporter for CNN, CBS (Philadelphia and Sacramento), and ABC (Chicago), among others.

Both organizations directed by Campbell, who lost his father to a neighborhood shooting in 1965, are dedicated to preventing gun violence through education, community activism, and legislation. Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown for Gun Safety, is a grassroots movement with a chapter in every U.S. state. Members fight for public safety measures such as new and stronger solutions to gun laws and loopholes.

The University’s associated production of “26 Pebbles” is directed by WP College of the Arts and Communication professor Elizabeth Stroppel, and runs at the Hunziker Black Box Theatre from Tuesday, November 13 to Sunday, November 18.
