In celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Center for Chinese Art at William Paterson University, the Center for Chinese Art will organize series of events that present its ten years’ achievement to the university and all the supportive patrons. These events record our ten years’ history created by all the artists, express gratitude to William Paterson University’s faculty, students and its community, bring more understanding, participation and support for the Center for Chinese Art at William Paterson University, to promote in-depth understanding, culture and art exchange between America and China.
4:00pm to 6:00pm on September 9th, 2019 at the Ben Shahn Art Center.
The 10th Anniversary Celebration for the Center for Chinese Art at William Paterson University will include the following events: An Opening Ceremony, the distribution of the Center’s new publication, “Transcending Boundaries: The 10th Anniversary Celebration of the Center for Chinese Art at William Paterson University,” and the exhibition reception for “Lines Crossing: Contemporary Chinese Printmaking.”
The Center for Chinese Art at William Paterson University (CCART) was established on September 9, 2009. It is the first nonprofit center for Chinese art in the Universities of the United States that aims to academically promote cultural and artistic exchanges between the two countries.
Lines Crossing: Contemporary Chinese Printmaking

The exhibition, Lines Crossing: Contemporary Chinese Printmaking, is organized in celebration of the 10th anniversary of the founding of the Center for Chinese Art at William Paterson University. Ranging from wood engravings to lithographs and intaglios, these artworks were created by a new generation of printmakers who are exploring innovative directions in a medium with a long legacy in China. Artists in the exhibition include: Jingbo An, Ling Ban, En Hao, Xianwu Hu, Xun Li, Yanpeng Li, Lianfang Liang, Bo Liu, Gen Liu, Linge Liu, Yanfei Liu, Haonan Tan, Ruiqing Wang, Shuai Wang, Wufeng Yu, Minjie Zhang, Bin Zhou, Yunzhi Zhou, Hua Zhu, and Jianxiang Zhu.

When the Center for Chinese Art was first established at William Paterson University in 2009, the University took a leadership role in the State of New Jersey in the promotion and appreciation of Chinese art and culture. Over these ten years, under the guiding hand of Professor Zhiyuan Cong, the Center has matured and grown into an important resource for our students and faculty, and to society at large.
William Paterson University has always taken seriously its role in the creation and dissemination of the arts in our state and region, and the Center for Chinese Art distinguishes the University as a leader in fostering cross-cultural understanding of this distinctive art form. Through visiting artists, exhibits, and study abroad programs, our community is gaining a deeper appreciation of ancient and modern Chinese art. The distinguished artists, musicians, performers, and craftsmen who have visited our campus and shared their unique talents with our students and faculty have not only enriched the academic climate on campus, but have also created a space for the expression of ideas through forms not familiar to modern American audiences.
Many of our students have enjoyed Chinese art and culture first-hand through the Summer Study Abroad Program. These programs are figuratively opening doors to a culture that is unknown to so many of our students and showing them the value of the learning about those different from themselves. These are enriching experiences that will change their outlooks forever.
Through the generous support of donors, led by founding honorary directors Margaret Lam and David Yen, the Center for Chinese Art has been able to expand its impact on the University, and we look forward to many more years of Chinese artistic and creative expression on our campus. The Center for Chinese Art is a great success story, and I thank all of those who have contributed to its realization.
