University to Present Destination Motown Featuring the Sensational Soul Cruisers on Valentine’s Day, February 14

William Paterson R & B Ensemble to perform as opening act

Destination Motown, a multimedia show featuring the New Jersey band the Sensational Soul Cruisers, will be staged on Valentine’s Day, Friday, February 14, 2020, at 8 p.m. in the Shea Center for Performing Arts at William Paterson University in Wayne.

The Sensational Soul Cruisers, who have been described as a cross between Kool and the Gang, Chicago, and the Temptations, will perform a variety of the greatest hits by Motown bands such as the Temptations, the Jackson Five, Marvin Gaye, The Four Tops and many others. The band’s rhythm section was the band behind Eddie Testa in the movie Eddie and the Cruisers.

The William Paterson R & B Ensemble, a student performing group, will kick off the evening with a selection of their own a cappella arrangements of hits spanning the Motown era up to current chart toppers. The ensemble, one of the University’s chamber music groups in the Department of Music, formed in fall 2019 to explore the long and rich history of the rhythm and blues genre. It is currently comprised of 14 students from the popular music and classical music programs with the goal of exploring this music in its various evolutionary stages.

Tickets are $35 for orchestra and $30 for loge seats; discounts are available for William Paterson University faculty, staff and alumni. William Paterson alumni who call the box office and identify themselves as WP Sweethearts, will receive a gift from the William Paterson Alumni Association.
