Lectures, discussions, and creative arts support William Paterson University’s annual observance of Black History Month during February 2020.
This year’s theme “Reclaiming and Creating our Legacy” was rooted in understanding the origins of African-American heritage and learning how to continue creating positive legacies for generations to come. At the opening ceremony, speakers included President Richard J. Helldobler, David E. Jones, chief diversity officer, and Jhamani Ashcraft, a member of the Black Student Union, followed by students performing “Lift Every Voice and Sing.”
Activities included a panel discussion with alumni who graduated in a range of decades to speak about their own experiences during their time on campus. Other events included films, discussions, trips to theater events and museums, and campus celebrations.
