Anthony R. Bowrin, PhD, Appointed Dean of the Cotsakos College of Business at William Paterson University

Anthony (Tony) R. Bowrin, PhD, a highly respected scholar and administrator with significant senior leadership experience at three internationally recognized business schools, has been appointed dean of the Cotsakos College of Business at William Paterson University in Wayne, New Jersey after a national search. He will join the University on July 1, 2020.

Bowrin has served as dean of the Scott L. Carmona College of Business at Saginaw Valley State University in Michigan since July 2016, where he previously served as associate dean from 2013 to 2016. He first joined Saginaw Valley State University in 2009 as an accounting professor.

He served as executive director of The University of the West Indies School of Business and Applied Studies Limited from 2007 to 2009, and as deputy dean of distance education and outreach, Faculty of Social Sciences, at The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine, from 2004 to 2006. He originally joined The University of the West Indies in 2000 as a full-time lecturer in the Department of Management Studies.

Bowrin is an active scholar whose research focuses on corporate governance and financial reporting quality. His work has been published in several leading academic journals including Accounting Education: An International Journal; Advances in International Accounting; Accounting, Auditing and Accountability Journal; Journal of Accounting Literature; Journal of Accounting in Emerging Economies; Managerial Finance; and Journal of Co-operative Studies.

He has led consulting and executive development programs for several economically significant businesses throughout the English-speaking Caribbean. He has served as a director of several organizations including Bay Future Inc., Michigan; the UWI School of Business and Applied Studies Limited – ROYTEC; the UWI Credit Union Cooperative Society Limited; Cable News Channel 3; Trinidad Broadcasting Company Limited; and the Caribbean Court of Justice Trust Fund. He is a member of the American Accounting Association, the Institute of Management Accountants, USA, the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants, and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He is a member of the Saginaw Valley Rotary Club, and a volunteer with The Legacy Center, Midland, Michigan.

Bowrin holds a PhD in business administration (auditing), from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, and a master of science in accounting and a bachelor of science in management studies from University of the West Indies, St. Augustine, Trinidad and Tobago.
