Accrediting Agency Affirms William Paterson University Nursing Programs at the Undergraduate, Master’s, Post-Master’s and Doctoral Levels

The Department of Nursing at William Paterson University has earned reaccreditation by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) for the next decade, through June of 2030, for its bachelor degree program in nursing, master’s degree program in nursing, post-graduate Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) certificate program, and Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program.

The reaccreditation comes after CCNE conducted a full review, including an on-site evaluation in the fall of 2019. The commission’s board found that the WP nursing programs met all four accreditation standards: mission and governance, institutional commitment and resources, teaching-learning practices, assessment and achievement of program outcomes. 

“This accreditation demonstrates our meeting gold standards in our programs from baccalaureate to doctorate level,” says WP Department of Nursing Professor and Chairperson Leo-Felix Jurado. 

The University’s nursing programs meet or exceed goals in outcomes such as licensure and certification exam pass rates, as well as retention, graduation and employment rates, he adds.  

“It also demonstrates the effectiveness of our curricula, outstanding performance of faculty and staff, excellent resources like our simulation laboratory, top notch clinical experiences for our students achieved through our collaborating clinical agencies such as the Dedicated Education Unit program, and our strong support as a department to the mission of our University.” 

Officially recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education CCNE is an autonomous accrediting agency that assesses and identifies nursing programs engaging in effective educational practices. As a voluntary, self-regulatory process, CCNE accreditation supports and encourages continuing self-assessment by nursing programs and supports continuing growth and improvement of collegiate professional education and nurse residency programs.

Many graduates from the bachelor’s through doctoral levels of William Paterson University’s nursing department currently hold positions at the director level, and some are chief nurse executives, educators and deans of schools of nursing. Nurse practitioners in different specialties and clinical staff nurses who have graduated from the University are abundant throughout New Jersey and the surrounding states.
