Virtual Substitute Teacher License Workshop to be Held at William Paterson University on October 7

—Learn the essential skills needed to be a substitute teacher in New Jersey public schools during a global pandemic

A virtual substitute teacher license workshop designed to provide the skills needed to become an effective substitute teacher—in person, hybrid or online—will be held online by William Paterson University on Wednesday, October 7, 2020.

The workshop, taught by the University’s College of Education professors, will provide the essential skills and materials needed to be a substitute teacher in New Jersey public and private schools. The program will provide participants with a “toolbox” of ideas and materials and critical classroom skills to manage any grade-level classroom. 

Topics include:

  • Various school models for reopening schools including in person, hybrid, and remote models
  • Safe and secure schools
  • Using various platforms for remote learning, including Google Classroom, Google Meet and Zoom
  • Creating a Digital Teacher "toolbox"
  • Teaching strategies
  • Synchronous and Asynchronous teaching

This workshop is open to anyone interested in teaching in their local schools, including individuals who have 60 college credits, or have previous experience as substitute teachers and are seeking additional classroom skills. The program is appropriate for substituting at any grade level from pre-K through grade 12 and will focus on gaining essential skills and confidence.
