Retired Art Teacher Jeri Lynn Piechoski ’79 Publishes Coloring Book for the Doodler in All of Us

Jeri Lynn Piechoski ’79

As an elementary school art teacher for seventeen years, Jeri Lynn Piechoski ’79 always encouraged her students to think outside the box and lines when creating their artwork.

Piechoski recently published her own version of an adult coloring book titled, Alphabet Soup for the Bored! the Coloring Book Alternative You Fill with Inspirational Words and Designs from A-Z: Oodles of Noodles to Doodle! The book encourages people to draw outside the box. It contains 26 open bubble-shaped alphabet letters plus blank pages for doodling. Piechoski says it is ideal for adults, children, or can be used as an art therapy book.

Now retired from teaching, Piechoski taught in Paterson’s School No. 25 for three years before moving to Chicago, Illinois, Omaha, Nebraska, and later to Arizona, where she now resides.

The pandemic gave her time to create the coloring book that was inspired by her mother. When the adult coloring book craze hit in 2015 as a way to de-stress, Piechoski’s mom was given one of the popular versions at her assisted living residence. “The pre-designed, intricate shapes and words in these books are not always easy to color -- and it gave me the idea to create an alternative version with big open shapes,” she says.

“No matter what you have as your inspiration, be creative and stay artsy,” says Piechoski. “This book can be filled with doodling, your thoughts, or can be used as your journal. You have that big space – fill it up with you.”

Alphabet Soup for the Bored!  is available at Barnes & Noble, Target and Amazon.
