William Paterson University student Antoinett Arce, a public relations major who graduated in January 2022, is one of four recipients to receive the 2022 Changebuilder Scholars Award through New Jersey Campus Compact for her outstanding civic engagement – one of the core values of the University.

“Antoinette gave significant time to build the impact of WP’s Pioneer Food pantry. Many students shared that the groceries and supplies significantly helped them financially with remaining in college. As a Changebuilder, Antoinette has become skilled in effective communication and in leading projects. Her experiences will carry her well toward her desired career in higher education Student Affairs ,” the New Jersey Campus Compact states in its award announcement.

In her role as public relations chair for the Café con Leche program, Arce planned and executed on-campus events and recruited 15-plus students per event. She also served as vice president of public relations for the Student Government Association and public relations chair of the Organization of Latin American Students. As a member of the New Jersey COVID-19 Service Corps Americorps group, Arce assisted adult students with their online degree programs and coordinated academic workshops and events.

“I’m grateful to have gained so much experience and had so many mentors with my campus involvement,” says Arce. “One of the things that I’m truly grateful for is being a voice and movement for the WP student community. I have found that even the smallest activity, whether it’s organizing the Pioneer Pantry or writing letters to veterans, creates a positive influence for many.”

William Paterson is one of the founding members of Campus Compact New Jersey, the statewide affiliate of the national Campus Compact that promotes public and community service to develop students' citizenship skills.
