Name: Theresa Bivaletz (she/her)
Title: Social Worker for Student Support & Resources

Tell us about yourself: Throughout my time at WP, I have connected with hundreds of students to support them through their challenges and successes. I never would have guessed that I’d being working in higher education, but I’m not at all surprised by the type of work that I’m doing here. I love helping and connecting people with what they need, both professionally and in my personal life. I have a truly amazing 3-year-old daughter, Bexley, and an awesome husband, Nolan. We love playing CandyLand together and going for ice cream at our favorite place, Bellvale Creamery. I’m a true Jersey girl and grew up nearby in Clifton. I love reading (and going out to dinner with my book club), playing softball, baking, volunteering with my community, and watching my daughter grow.
Describe your role on campus: As social worker, I assist students experiencing challenging situations (financial, housing, and other basic needs crises), and help to reduce the impact of these stressors through connection with campus partners, community resources, and support systems. I also provide confidential, trauma-informed advocacy to student survivors of dating/domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking.
A defining moment at WP: Attending my first WP commencement in May 2015. This happened to be our first at Prudential Center and it was so exciting and sentimental for me. I loved seeing the joy on our students’ faces, and working together with my WP team to make it so memorable for them. I’ve truly enjoyed every commencement since then!
Favorite part about your job: Witnessing students overcome barriers and be successful.
Fun fact: In 2006, I was on "Wheel of Fortune." (Spoiler alert: I did not win.)
Finish this sentence: "WP is a powerhouse of students accomplishing their goals." Despite adversity, our students achieve their goals. It may take asking for help, some course correcting, and a lot of determination, but they do amazing things!
