The Robert Cray Band, known for its unique groove born from a love of soul, R & B, gospel, blue and rock and roll, brings its 50th anniversary tour to William Paterson University in Wayne on Friday, February 16 at 8 p.m. as part of the University’s WP Presents! series.
Touring and recording since 1974, the Robert Cray Band has won five Grammy Awards, recorded 20 acclaimed studio and live albums that have sold millions of copies, and been inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame. Cray also earned the Americana Music Awards Lifetime Achievement for Performance. His 2020 release, That’s What I Heard, celebrates the music of Curtis Mayfield, Bobby “Blue” Bland, The Sensational Nightingales and more, alongside Cray’s own songs.
A blues guitarist and singer, Cray has played with the Rolling Stones, Tina Turner, and Eric Clapton, among others. His current band features Richard Cousins, bass; Dover Weinberg, keyboards; and Les Falconer, drums.
Tickets are $65, Gold Circle; $55 for orchestra/front loge, and $45 for rear loge. There is a 10 percent discount for William Paterson faculty, staff, students, and alumni, as well as senior citizens. All tickets are an additional $5 on the day of the show.
