INFORMATION FOR
The David & Lorraine Cheng Library hosts several Voting 101 programs throughout the year as part of the Library’s Civic Literacy Initiative. On April 2, NJ State Senator Joseph Cryan (D-20) visited the campus and attended the Library’s Voting 101 Primary Election program. The event focused on assisting students in preparing for June primary elections in the state. The program featured a mock voting booth, that provided an opportunity for new voters to experience the voting process before going to the polls.
Senator Cryan attended the Voting 101 program during a campus visit and took the opportunity to speak with a great number of students on the importance of voting. The conversation helped students understand the impacts elections have on them and the issues they should be aware of as new voters.
The event was co-sponsored by the WP American Democracy Project and the Office of Campus Activities, Service, and Leadership. The program also provided information to students regarding William Paterson Student Government Association Elections and positions.
As part of the program, the Cheng Library maintains two Voting 101 Guides. One is designed to aid students in preparing to vote in local, state, and federal elections. The second guide provides information and resources regarding the Student Government Association on campus and how students can become candidates for SGA positions and vote in SGA elections.
The next Voting 101 event is the annual “Voter Treat” event scheduled for Thursday, October 31, 2024, 12:30pm in the Cheng Library. The program will once again feature a mock voting booth, voter information resources, and Halloween candy for participating students.
