Featuring stars from the Broadway shows Jersey Boys, Motown, Beautiful and Hairspray, the Doo Wop Project is inspired by inner-city African American vocal groups like The Flamingos, The Five Satins, The Miracles and later The Four Seasons, along with all the original groups that created the sound of Doo Wop. The show traces the evolution of Doo Wop from the classic sound of five guys singing tight harmonies on a street corner to the biggest hits on the radio today, expanding the genre by incorporating the sounds of today's top artists such as Amy Winehouse, Maroon 5, Garth Brooks, Jason Mraz, and Adele, to name a few.
A hit PBS concert special filmed before a live audience has aired across the country. In addition, the group has recorded four albums which are streaming on all major music platforms.
Among the band members is Little Falls, NJ native Jess LeProtto, a graduate of Passaic Valley Regional High School. LeProtto’s numerous stage credits include: A Beautiful Noise, Carousel, Hello, Dolly!, Cats, On The Town, Newsies, Bye Bye Birdie, How The Grinch Stole Christmas!, and The Boy From Oz. His film and TV appearances include Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story, So You Think You Can Dance (Season 8, Top 8), One Life to Live, and Law & Order: SVU. He has also performed in national tour and regional productions of Hello, Dolly! starring Betty Buckley, So You Think You Can Dance (North American Tour, Dance Captain), In Your Arms (The Old Globe), A Bronx Tale/The Wanderer (Papermill Playhouse), Jersey Boys (Frankie Valli, The REV Theatre Co.), American Dance Machine for the 21st Century (Joyce Theatre), and Norma/Freddie Falls in Love.
