William Paterson University Professor of Athletic Training and Sports Medicine Robb Rehberg has been elected as a Distinguished Fellow in the Athletic Training Academy, part of the healthcare industry’s National Academies of Practice.

Rehberg has made noteworthy contributions to the field of athletic training, particularly through “his leadership and advocacy efforts that have shaped interprofessional practice,” the NAP said in a public announcement.

The fulltime director of clinical education for WP’s athletic training and sports medicine programs, Rehberg also works as the senior medical advisor and director of game day medical operations for the National Football League (NFL).

“Being honored by the National Academies of Practice is significant to me because it recognizes my commitment to advancing sports medicine and athletic training through interdisciplinary collaboration and education,” Rehberg says. “It also emphasizes the importance of educating and mentoring future athletic trainers within a broader healthcare context, which I believe is important for the future of the profession.”

Rehberg is co-founder the Rehberg Konin Group — a consulting firm focused on sports medicine, sport safety, and risk management — and is also the founder of Sport Safety International, an organization dedicated to promoting safe participation in sport and physical activity through education and advocacy.

Founded in 1981, the National Academies of Practice advances interprofessional education, scholarship, research, practice, and public policy in numerous healthcare fields including athletic training, audiology, nursing, optometry, veterinary medicine, and more.

Rehberg will be inducted into the National Academies of Practice during an event in Washington, DC on March 15.
