Session I: Reconstructing the Core Curriculum

This is part one of William Paterson University's second annual conference entitled "Whose University? The Future of Higher Education in America." Part one -- "Reconstructing the Core Curriculum" -- includes presentations by Dr. Susan E. Lawrence, Dean For Educational Initiatives & the Core Curriculum at Rutgers University's School of Arts and Sciences, and Dr. Balmurli Natrajan, Professor of Anthropology at William Paterson University. Dr. Lawrence's presentation addresses why core curricula matter, while Dr. Natrajan's presentation covers the idea of rescuing education from a point of view.


Session II: Identity, Diversity, and Knowledge

This is part two of a two-part recording of William Paterson University's second annual conference entitled "Whose University? The Future of Higher Education in America." Part two -- "Identity, Diversity, and Knowledge" -- includes presentations by Dr. Greg Tanaka, Professor of Education at Mills College; Dr. Scarlet Bowen, Director of the GLBTQ Resource Center at the University of Colorado at Boulder and affiliate faculty member in the Women and Gender Studies program; and Dr. Jeanne Weiler of Hunter College's Department of Educational Foundations and Counseling Programs, and professor in the sociology department. Dr. Tanaka's presentation addresses the effect of economic turmoil on representative democracy and the role that higher education can play in rebuilding social infrastructure.
