Creative Writing, Undergraduate Certificate

The 12-credit Certificate in Creative Writing program is designed for those who want to explore the art of writing poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction. The program is open to adult learners with at least a high school diploma, as well as undergraduate students attending community college or university. Any credits you earn in the program can be applied to a college or university degree. Creative Writing Certificate courses can be completed entirely online, though some courses may be offered in person or in “hybrid” or "hyflex" formats for those interested in attending in-person.

Certificate course instructors are experienced creative and professional writers, all of whom are associated with William Paterson University’s Master of Fine Arts Program in Creative and Professional Writing. All of the craft courses are taught on the workshop model, with open discussion and detailed, constructive criticism of each student's writing.

Courses taken for this certificate may also count towards the English major, English minor or University Core Curriculum.
