Speech-language pathology - Mission Statement 

The mission of the undergraduate program is to provide students with the fundamental knowledge related to typical and atypical communication processes across the lifespan so that students have the basic knowledge necessary to enter a master's program in communication disorders and science or to purse employment in a related discipline.

1.1 Biological and neurological bases of human communication

Students will demonstrate knowledge of etiologies associated with of disorders of human communication and swallowing, including: phonology, articulation, language, hearing, voice, swallowing and fluency.

Students will demonstrate knowledge of characteristics associated with human communication disorders and differences, including: phonology, articulation, language, hearing, voice, swallowing and fluency.

Students will demonstrate knowledge of prevention, evaluation, and intervention for communication and swallowing disorders.

The mission of the graduate program is to prepare students for careers in speech-language pathology so that they can provide competent and evidence-based service to individuals with communication disorders, across the lifespan. Students are provided with a comprehensive education that encompasses an evidence-based approach to the theoretical, practical, and ethical aspects of the field of communication sciences and disorders and which also fosters research and scholarship in order to contribute to the knowledge of the profession. The mission of the Speech and Hearing Clinic is to provide graduate students in Communication Disorders and Sciences the opportunity to evaluate and treat individuals with communication disorders. The Speech and Hearing Clinic promotes clinical excellence while preparing students for careers in a variety of employment settings, and ensuring the delivery of quality professional services in speech-language pathology to individuals within the University and surrounding communities.
